Can I iron my CYANOTYPE treated cotton or silk before printing it?

Yes, you can press your treated cotton or silk before you print on it using a warm dry (no steam) iron.

Can I use your CYANOYTPE cotton and paper in an Elementary School Art Class; is it safe for kids to use?

Yes, CYANOTYPE cotton and paper is safe for all age kids to use. It conforms to ASTM D 4236 (non-toxic).


Do I need to use a piece of glass or plexi-grass to hold down my design before printing?

No, however, using glass or plexi-glass to hold down your design before printing is a great way to create a tight contact so your prints will be in perfect focus. It also protects your design from being blown away by the wind.

Caring for your prints

How do I wash my CYANOTYPE printed cotton?

You can wash you CYANOTYPE printed cotton using laundry detergent that does not have PHOSPHATE listed as an ingredient. You can use a washing machine or hand wash and dry using a dryer or air dry.

Will my CYANOTYPE print fade in the sun?

Yes, but it's only temporary. If you leave your CYANOTYPE print in direct sunlight for an extended period of time, it will fade. However, just place your "faded" print in a dark place for a few hours and your print will return to its origonal beauty.
